In August 1961, the John Coltrane Quintet played at the legendary Village Gate in Greenwich Village, New York. 

Coltrane's Classic Quartet had not yet found its final form and that evening the visionary multi-instrumentalist Eric Dolphy played along. 

Two icons from the jazz scene of that time, Dolphy would die two years later. 

This album contains 90 minutes of never-before-heard music by this group, forgotten and rediscovered in the New York Public Library.
