Muslimgauze panel-beats and welds shards of sawn-off loops into a pariticularly brittle, gnashing, but still dubwise session, issued as part of Ukrainian label I Shall Sing Until My Land Is Free

‘Martyr Shrapnel’ was isssued posthumously in 2012 and now as part of a fundraising campaign for Ukrainian resistance to invading forces. It appears on the label alongside multiple previous Muslimgauze numbers, as well as releases by Ilpo Väisänen, Merzbow and more, with a concentration of the late Manchester legend’s prickly energies over an hour of astringently noisy and heads-down grooves.

The first part’s ‘Analog Zikr’ pieces rudely scuzzy hip hop loops with trace elements of sampled instruments, field recordings and lashings of distortion, at best in the frenetic ‘Analog Zikr 2’, the calcium-deficient King Tubby styles of ‘Analog Zik 5’, and severely decayed blast of ‘Analog Zikr 6’. The other half comes equally thistly, but also notably lusher, characterised by the nine minutes of hazed-out pads and turgid tabla on ‘Palestine Cache 2’, which breaks down into back-combed loops on ‘Palestina Cache 3’, alongside three cuts that lend the LP its title, at best in the acid-emulsified noise grind of ‘Martyr Shrapnel 3’.
